Our 10-11Jun2016 Hackathon format was designed to stimulate ideas amongst Teams to help them prototype next-generation ideas for Newcastle and the Hunter Region, leveraging their Hacker, Hustler or Hipster skills and contemporary tech tools.

Our event supported remote participation by anyone with an interest in new tech and giving the Hunter region a vibrant digital pulse from outside the venue, over secure chat rooms and social media. This year, we're aiming higher with a range of Event Hubs.

Here's how you can work with them to help shape and focus their efforts in your own journey of Pitch, Select + Connect.

1. Hunter Broadcast - PITCH via  #HunterHackFest Friday 19May2017 5pm-8pm

We asked our teams and volunteers to be active on the #HunterHackFest hashtag leading up to and during the event, across Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. A hashtag is a way of making content visible for a particular targeted event, either as a physical conference, or a virtual chat. This pattern is used to connect with people who share their interests across the globe - we want to harness that collective voice to help guide our teams before the event. By helping teams to understand the challenges you face and your aspirations for the Hunter, they can develop emerging concepts to help address them. 

2. Teams SELECT a topic of interest from Friday 19May2017 8pm-9pm

Our competing teams formed on Friday night, after bold individuals set out an idea they want to work on and attract interested supporters to their team who will help them build it on 11June2016. 

3.  CONNECT over Secure Chat + Twitter 20May2017

You can chip in during the competition via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to give the teams feedback or a boost for their efforts - help us knit a digital community during the course of their challenge! They might invite you into a secure HipChat room for a more secure conversation, but give them a public boost for their work and focus.
