Event Challenges
The NCC Challenges - Inclusive Living + Energy Security
A smart city is about people. How do we address the digital divide, and ensure an inclusive city where no one is left behind? The Hunter is supported by a diverse network across the community and human service sectors. Collaboration is essential, but workers are time poor and relationships in the sector are complex. Can data and digitisation offer something?
Challenge # 1: Create a solution for better information sharing and networking that will generate improved collaborative action within the Newcastle community and human service sector.
Surging electricity prices, blackouts, weather events and aging infrastructure have put energy policy top of the agenda. Big ticket items such as Snowy 2.0, megawatt scale batteries and large scale wind and solar, might be half the solution, but what scope is there for smaller interventions and distributed energy production, storage and sharing to contribute to the future energy security of the Hunter.
Challenge # 2: Create a solution to help solve the Hunter’s energy demands that prioritises better use of existing and available resources and doesn’t rely on massive new infrastructure.
Virtual HunterNSW
Virtual Perspective are on hand to boost event teams who'd like to explore how they can leverage Virtual Reality + Augmented Reality technology to showcase the Hunter region, with a great post-event support package worth $5k to help you deliver on the idea.
Curious to know what that might look like? Check out this story on one of their recent portfolio projects, Hunter Living Histories.
Crowd Favourite
The Thursday night of Hunter Innovation Festival involves an Idea Bombing session at The Edwards, which will produce a tasty list of ideas for teams to take up the challenge and work up a prototype or concept that builds on the initial idea for our CrowdFavourite award.
